Black tea, essence of bergamot, essence of jasmine

Health Benefits

Black tea
Black tea contains an abundant source of natural plant-derived antioxidant compounds called polyphenols that may aid in fighting harmful free radicals. Research shows that these free radicals can cause heart disease, cancer and increase the risk of strokes. Drinking black tea with its high antioxidant levels may help protect the body by counteracting harmful free radical activity.

Further health benefits of black tea may include lowering cholesterol, strengthening the immune system, promoting healthy blood vessel functionality and even protecting teeth and bones. In addition, black tea provides a source of nutrients including magnesium, managanese, potassium, calcium, and the vitamins C and K all in trace amounts.

Bergamot (Citrus bergamia)
Named after the southern Italian city of Bergamot where first cultivated, the Bergamot tree produces a small round yellow citrus fruit when ripe. Extracted from the peel by cold pressing, Bergamot oil boasts a light and refreshing, spicy citrus scent.

It’s known to aid digestion and relax the nervous system. With its antiseptic properties, it’s also used to treat skin infections such as acne and eczema. For many years, people have used Bergamot to remedy fevers, including malaria and urinary tract infections.

History

Earl Grey is one of the most popular scented teas in the west. Earl Grey tea is named after the second Earl Charles Grey of Britain (1764-1845), who in the early 1830s, according to legend, received the scented tea from a Chinese Mandarin court trying to influence diplomatic relations.

Based on an ancient recipe, the black tea blended with the citrusy Bergamot peel, proved so popular with the Prime Minister and his cabinet that he requested Twinings in Strand, powerful British Tea Merchants at the time, to replicate the sample. Twinings went on to sell the first Earl Grey Tea to the English public. Prime Minister Earl Grey is perhaps best known for abolishing slavery in the British Empire a generation before the American Civil War.
